Film promotion: pitching

Title: Obsession
A dedicated young college boy is enchanted by the beauty of the new girl who is mysterious and alluring causing his feelings to become more than lust until he can’t bear to see her with anyone else apart from him and takes his thoughts into actions.

This film is a thriller/drama which is set in London and is similar to the film vertigo from the director Alfred Hitchcock. This film will appeal to those to the age of 15+ who are interested in horrors.
The story is based on the character Chris who lets love blind him into evil as he falls dangerously in love with stunning, admirable Jada who is flirtatious and misleading.

The narrative of my film: 18 year old Chris who is devoted to his life as a drama student almost instantly falls love struck with young Jada who becomes popular and idolised. But with her deceitful ways she hypothesises him into believing there are more than friends. Jada may think of this as a game that most young adults play, however Chris is very serious about letting others know their ‘status’ and decides to teach her a lesson.

Film trailer and poster analysis

Film poster analysis:
One of the key conventions on this poster is the title (Django), which is bold and in red. Another convention is it has information about the director as it says its his new film and this shows that people familiar with this director might know what kind of genre it is and whether they would be interested in watching his latest film. it also features the stars on the cast. this is effect because it helps the audience know whether they would interested in that particular film as some actors play certain roles in the same genres of film. At the bottom centre it has the production blurb. It has a central image of the main character and secondary images including two other important characters. They are both holding guns which suggests it is a western also we can figure that out due to the style of clothing.behind it of two other men. it also has the release date at the bottom. At the top it has the tag line.

Film trailer analysis:
At the start of the trailer it has the website, therefore one convention in this is social media. Also it has the institution (sony pictures). it then has clips from the main sections of the film. throughout the trailer there is non-diegetic sound. Also there is diegetic sound coming from the characters. The music used sounds like western music which fits in the genre. This is effective for the audience understand what kind of film they will be watching. it has on screen text which mentions the director. There are a lot of close up shots used to introduce the characters and the narrative. At the end it has the release date.

In my opinion the poster and trailer do successfully promote the film because they explain the genre and give an insight to what the film will be like. They have also used many of the key conventions for the film.

3) What other examples of marketing (teaser trailers, main trailers, newspaper or TV interviews etc.) can you find for your chosen film from before the film’s release date?

It’s a social thing
1) What was the word-of-mouth like for your chosen film? If you can’t find tweets (probably blocked) use the IMDB user review rating or the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer rating to judge whether the public have given the movie a good review.

"I rarely bother to give reviews after watching a movie. But holy crap this was a good movie. I'm pretty sure it is the best movie i've seen all year. and yes i saw dark knight rises, avengers, flight, Argo, hobbit, etc... Tarantino delivers and then some.. Every actor is on point. Awesome performances, great story, it will definitely take you on a ride full of surprises. I would recommend everyone to go watch this film, it is truly a great film.. unless you're a little kid.. don't go watch this movie if you're a little kid. I've seen all of Tarantinos movies and I have to say this has been my favorite. It is just awesome in every way. I'm usually very harsh on movies. I mean ill watch just about anything, but for me to think a movie was actually "good", takes a whole lot. DiCaprio was like i've never seen him before, and being one of my favorite actors, it was a little weird at first. But he does an outstanding job at selling his role within seconds of his first appearance. Waltz delivered as i knew he would. and Jaime Foxx, well he did not fall behind. Last but not least Jackson was hilarious and also did an amazing job... Go watch the movie, it is worth it."

"At first I didn't want to see this movie because of some political remarks made by Jamie Foxx and Samuel Jackson, two of my previously favorite actors, but Quintin Tarentino is a great director, so I broke down and saw it. Glad I did. This was absolutely one of the best movies of the year. Although Jamie Foxx has top billing, this film would not have been anywhere as good without Christoph Waltz. He stole every scene he was in. Brilliant acting and great comedic delivery. Leo was great too. Lots of blood, something expected in most of Quintins movies, but a great story. Also expect to hear the N word about 2000 times. Cristoph Waltz should get the Oscar for his performance. Should get nominated for best picture. This is absolutely a must see."

From reading most of these reviews, I've decided that the audience was very pleased with the film and had a positive reaction to the film.

2) Find three quotes (no more than 25 words each) from user reviews of your movie to create a picture of what the public reaction to the film has been. Post them on your blog.
